valley of the dollsIt was only a few years ago that I discovered the magic of 60’s flicks and foreign cinema, so I cannot boast about being au fait in the subject, but I can tell you what makes for a fabulous girls night of red wine and pillow fights! Knowing how much I enjoy finding these treasures, a friend of mine brought over a slew of movies for our girls night. One of my favorites on the list was Valley of the Dolls. This is a US film made in 1967, about the rise and fall of three young girls in show biz. Campy and Classic!

Two more hits that I recommend from the 60’s, which were pretty racy for that time, are Barbarella, a sexual Sci-Fi thriller staring Jane Fonda, and Fellini’s, La Dolce Vita, a decedent tale of Rome’s elite social scene, just partying their asses off!

It was while watching La Dolce Vita that I first had the privilege of seeing Anouk Aimee perform. Even though Anita Ekberg had more screen time, I was completely enthralled by Anouk’s presence. I rushed to the video store to scoop up everything with Anouk they had in stock. I came back with Un Homme et une femme, titled in the US, “A Man and a Woman” and 8 ½. Both movies are less campy and more theatrical than the previous mentioned, and Anouk gives a stellar performance in each. I’m still on the lookout for anything with Anouk, so if you have a favorite, share your reviews!

Love All Around,
Cara Mia
